Firearms licensing for security guards in Queensland is regulated by the Queensland Police Service (QPS) Weapons Licensing Group – not the Office of Fair Trading. OFT regulates your Class 1 security provider licence and security functions, while QPS Weapons Licensing administers the separate Security Licence (Guard) required to possess and use firearms while performing authorised armed-security duties.
Weapons Licensing administers Queensland weapons legislation and is responsible for applications, renewals and ongoing weapons licensing requirements. If you are considering becoming an armed security guard, BARS Training Australia can provide the required specialist training, but the decision to issue your Security Licence (Guard) rests with QPS Weapons Licensing.
Current contact details for Queensland Weapons Licensing are: Phone: (07) 3015 7777 or +61 7 3015 7777 from overseas. Postal address: Weapons Licensing, GPO Box 892, Brisbane QLD 4001. Email for supporting information relating to an existing application to: weaponslicensingenquiry@police.qld.gov.au.
You can also obtain current licensing information, forms and contact options directly (view here). BARS can help you understand the training pathway, but questions about the issue, status or conditions of a weapons licence should always be directed to QPS Weapons Licensing.
