
The course has been specifically designed to meet the licensing requirements for a Security (Guard) Weapons License in Queensland.
Note: Those who hold a Queensland Security Guard Employee Licence are required to complete recertification annually to maintain their licence.
On successful completion participants will be issued with a statement of attainment with the following units:
- CPPSEC3101 Manage conflict and security risks using negotiation
- CPPSEC3102 Maintain operational safety and security of the work environment
- CPPSEC3103 Determine and implement response to security risk situation
- CPPSEC3114 Control security risk situations using firearms
- CPPSEC3115 Carry, operate and maintain revolvers for security purposes
- CPPSEC3116 Carry, operate and maintain semi-automatic pistols for security purposes
- CPPSEC3117 Carry, operate and maintain shotguns for security purposes

Licensing Process
In order to qualify for a Security Licence (Guard) in Queensland, all applicants applying for this type of licence, must provide with their new licence application, a statement of attainment (issued in the last 12 months) from an RTO showing they have completed the appropriate units of the CPP31318 Certificate III in Security Operations. Applications made for Security Guard Firearms Licences are handled by the Weapons Licencing Branch of the Queensland Police. This service incurs a fee to process, approve and issue licences which is not included in the cost of the course.

To apply for a weapons licence in Queensland you must:
- Meet the personal eligibility requirements
- Have a genuine reason to hold a licence.
- Have access to secure weapon storage.
- Complete an approved weapons safety course covering the category of weapon you’re applying for and provide your statement of attainment. The course must have been completed within the 12 months before the date of submitting your application.
- Provide the supporting documentation requested during the application process.
- Provide a passport-quality digital image of your head and shoulders against a plain background. This image will be printed on your licence card if your application is approved.
- Pay the required fees.
- Attend a Queensland Police Station with 100 points of identification once your application is at the final stages of assessment. (Online Application)
This particular course consists of the completion of pre-course reading in addition to a 5 days face to face classroom delivery from experts in their field which include theory, practical handling and live fire components on an approved range.
The course deals with knowledge, attitude and behaviour needed to use a firearm safely, responsibly and legally. It includes the technology of firearms and ammunition, safe handling and safe use of firearms, legal and social responsibilities of shooters, and practical shooting.
Please Note: Recognition of Prior Learning is not available on Firearms Safety Courses
In order to participate in this course, you must meet the following requirements:
- Must be over 18 years of age (or have written consent from parent/guardian to attend)
- Must not have any physical or other impairment which would prevent you from handling firearms safely – if unsure, seek advice from your GP or contact us to discuss suitability
- Must not have any criminal convictions (relating to drug use, violence or weapons) in the past five years
- Must not have been a subject to a domestic violence order in the past five years
- Must not have been a subject to an involuntary mental health order in the past five years
All participants should also have basic language, literacy and numeracy skills and are required to identify if they require language, literacy and numeracy support prior to enrolment by completing a short language, literacy and numeracy examination. Participants can also ask for language, literacy and numeracy support during the delivery if they find they are experiencing difficulties.
