Can I do firearms training if I do not yet hold a security licence?

Yes, you can undertake the security guard firearms training before your Queensland security licences have been issued.
However, completing the course and being eligible to apply for a Security Licence (Guard) are two different things. When you actually apply to Queensland Police Service Weapons Licensing for a Security Licence (Guard), QPS requires you to provide a current Security Provider Licence issued by the Office of Fair Trading with cash-in-transit listed as a licence function. Your firearms training Statement of Attainment must also have been issued within the previous 12 months. This means there can be some advantages in completing your training pathway in a sensible order.
A new entrant might complete their CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations, complete the additional cash-in-transit training and then undertake the BARS Security Guard Weapons Course while their OFT licence application is progressing. Just remember that completing firearms training does not give you permission to carry or use a firearm for security work. You must first successfully obtain the appropriate Security Licence (Guard) from Queensland Police Service Weapons Licensing.
Our advice is to talk to BARS before booking the firearms course so we can look at where you are in the security licensing pathway and help you plan the training in the right sequence.
