Do armed security officers need requalification training?

Armed Security and Weapons · 29 views
Yes. Queensland armed security officers must complete approved Security Guard Requalification training every 12 months to maintain their Security Licence (Guard). There is an important timing rule that you really need to watch. Queensland Police Service Weapons Licensing requires the requalification training to be successfully completed within the 60 days immediately before you lodge your renewal application.

You should not complete it too early, and QPS specifically says not to lodge your renewal until the day after completing your requalification. Your renewal application must then be lodged before your existing licence expires. This is one licence where missing the renewal date can cause you a lot of unnecessary grief. A Security Licence (Guard) has a maximum term of only 12 months, so you need to manage your annual training and renewal dates carefully.

If you allow the licence to expire, you can no longer simply rely on the normal renewal process and may need to make a new licence application and satisfy the applicable training requirements again.

BARS Training Australia provides the annual Security Guard Requalification training, but remember the important rule: don't do it too early and definitely don't leave it too late. Plan your training within that 60-day renewal window, allow time for your Statement of Attainment to be issued, and lodge your renewal before your Security Licence (Guard) expires.
