What should I ask an RTO before enrolling in security training?
BARS Support and Choosing a Training Provider·23 views
A good RTO should actually answer most of your questions before you even need to ask them. The RTO Standards place significant obligations on training providers to give prospective students clear and accurate information before enrolment so they can make an informed decision about their training. This includes information about the course, delivery arrangements, assessment requirements, fees and refund arrangements, student obligations, support services and any licensing or regulatory requirements relevant to the training. At BARS Training Australia, this is why every applicant for a full security course completes a pre-enrolment interview before enrolment.
We discuss the course structure, practical training requirements, volume of learning, costs, government funding where applicable, LLND and student support, security licensing requirements and anything else that could affect your ability to successfully complete the course. Importantly, applying for a BARS course does not commit you to enrolment. The application gives us the information we need to conduct the pre-enrolment assessment and gives you the opportunity to ask questions before making your decision. You should still do your own homework.
Check that the organisation is a registered RTO, that the qualification is on its current scope, that the training meets Queensland Office of Fair Trading requirements and that the practical training is genuinely practical. Ask who will be teaching you and what security experience they actually have. The best question may simply be: “Tell me exactly what I am getting before I enrol.” A professional RTO should be very comfortable answering that question.
