What is a cash-in-transit security officer?

Cash-in-Transit Security · 26 views
A cash-in-transit (CIT) security officer is a licensed security provider who protects and transports cash and other valuables from one location to another for payment or reward. This can include collecting money from businesses, conducting till runs, transporting banking deposits and moving cash, bullion, jewellery or other valuables.

Cash-in-transit is a separate function that can be added to your Queensland Class 1 security provider licence after completing the required additional training. BARS Training Australia regularly offers the three-unit cash-in-transit course immediately following our CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations courses, making it convenient for students who want to expand their licence functions while they are already completing their initial training. We highly recommend considering it. Having another function on your security licence broadens the duties you can legally perform and can make you considerably more attractive to prospective security employers.

It is important, however, not to confuse cash-in-transit training with becoming an armed security officer. A cash-in-transit licence function does not itself authorise you to carry a firearm. Armed security involves additional firearms training and a separate Security Licence (Guard) through Queensland Police Service Weapons Licensing. You can certainly perform cash-in-transit duties without being armed.

Think of CIT as another opportunity to expand what you can do in the security industry – and another licence function that may help you get that next job.
