Can my crowd controller licence be cancelled if I miss refresher training?

Yes. If you fail to complete the compulsory ongoing or revalidation training required for your crowd controller function, the Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT) can take disciplinary action and ultimately cancel that licence function. OFT specifically states that crowd controllers are responsible for completing the required training and submitting their results before the applicable expiry date.
Importantly, missing your refresher training does not mean your entire Class 1 security provider licence automatically disappears on the due date. The ongoing three-year training requirement relates specifically to the crowd controller and/or bodyguard functions. If you also hold other functions such as security officer (unarmed) or security officer (monitoring), those functions are not subject to the same three-year revalidation requirement. Your refresher training date is also not necessarily the expiry date printed on your security licence. The dates for completing ongoing training are not provided with your licence, so you need to keep track of them separately.
BARS Training Australia sends reminders to our students as their revalidation date approaches, but ultimately maintaining your licence requirements remains your responsibility. Don't leave your training until the last minute. Allow enough time to complete the course, have your assessments marked and your Statement of Attainment issued. If your renewal is already approaching and you are enrolled with BARS but awaiting completion or certification, OFT has confirmed to us that proof of enrolment may be uploaded with the online renewal application in those circumstances.
