How often do I need to renew CPR as a crowd controller?
Existing Officers and Refresher Training·23 views
Queensland crowd controllers and bodyguards are required to refresh HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) every 12 months. Interestingly, the Office of Fair Trading has not traditionally required you to provide a current CPR Statement of Attainment every time you renew your crowd controller or bodyguard licence. That does not mean you can allow your CPR competency to expire. Maintaining current CPR is an ongoing training requirement and ultimately your responsibility as a licensed security provider.
There is also a very practical employment reason to keep it current. Many Queensland security employers now use electronic workforce management and rostering systems such as Guardhouse. These systems are increasingly used for compliance and governance, tracking security licences, qualifications and certification expiry dates. Guardhouse, for example, allows employers to specify the licences, qualifications and accreditations required for particular sites and can flag compliance problems when rostering officers.
In practical terms, if your employer or a particular client requires current CPR and your qualification has expired, you may find yourself unable to be rostered for available shifts until you update it. So don't look at CPR as something you only need when renewing your security licence. Keep it current every 12 months. It keeps you compliant, keeps you employment-ready and, most importantly, maintains a skill that could genuinely save somebody's life.
