The Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT) will normally send you a renewal notice approximately six weeks before your security licence expires. You can renew an individual security provider licence online through Fair Trading Online Services, or use the renewal form provided by OFT.
The important thing is to renew and pay the required fees before your current licence expires. If you lodge your renewal and pay the fee before expiry, OFT allows you to continue working while the renewal is being processed. You must be able to produce your expired licence together with your renewal payment receipt during this period. If you allow the licence to expire, it cannot simply be renewed and you must apply for a new licence. You cannot perform licensed security work until you are properly licensed again. If you hold the crowd controller and/or bodyguard functions, remember that your compulsory revalidation training requirements also need to be kept current. OFT currently requires crowd controllers to provide their training results and recommends submitting them at least two months before licence expiry.
BARS Training Australia also automatically provides our students' completed revalidation results directly to OFT when certification is issued. Where a BARS student is completing required revalidation training but their Statement of Attainment is not yet available, OFT has confirmed to BARS that proof of enrolment may be uploaded with the online renewal application. Our advice is simple: don't leave renewal until the last minute.
Keep your address and contact details current with OFT, watch your expiry and revalidation dates, complete any required training early and lodge your renewal before the licence expires.
