Who is eligible for Career Start security funding?

Career Start funding is available to eligible Queenslanders undertaking approved entry-level vocational training, including the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations through BARS Training Australia. To access a subsidised place, you generally need to be at least 15 years old, no longer attending school, permanently reside in Queensland and be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident, or hold an eligible visa with the necessary rights. You must generally not have completed a Certificate III or higher qualification within the previous 10 years, excluding qualifications completed while at school and foundation skills qualifications.  You also cannot currently be enrolled in another qualification, including one that has been deferred or placed on hold. Specific eligibility restrictions also apply to funded security training, including requirements relating to automatic disqualifying offences that could prevent you from obtaining a Queensland security licence.

Importantly, BARS cannot confirm your Career Start eligibility simply from a telephone call or email. The Queensland Government requires Skills Assure Suppliers to assess eligibility before enrolment and retain appropriate evidence. You must first submit a BARS application containing the required declarations and identification so that your eligibility can be checked through the Queensland Government funding process.  BARS then conducts a pre-enrolment assessment where your funding eligibility, security licensing suitability, training needs and course costs are fully explained. Submitting an application does not commit you to enrolment. Once you know whether funding is available, what the course will cost and what will be expected of you, you can make an informed decision about whether you want to proceed.
