Are security licence fees included in the BARS course fee?

No. Your BARS Training Australia course fee covers your training and assessment; it does not include the separate fees charged by the Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to apply for your security provider licence. After completing your CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations, you must separately apply to OFT for your Class 1 security provider licence. The licensing process involves an application fee and mandatory criminal history and fingerprinting fees for an initial application. These fees are paid as part of the OFT licensing process and are completely separate from BARS Training Australia.

BARS believes students should understand the complete cost of becoming licensed before they enrol, not discover additional costs after completing their training. For this reason, licensing requirements and expected OFT costs are discussed as part of our pre-enrolment process and again during your security course. Our facilitators also take students through the online and paper licence application processes during training so you understand what happens next.

BARS also works closely with employment service providers throughout Queensland, and some providers have previously assisted eligible job seekers with security licensing costs as part of their pathway into employment. Whether this assistance is available depends entirely on the provider, funding program and individual circumstances. Your training fee and your security licence fees are therefore separate costs – but we will make sure you understand both before you commence your journey into the security industry.
