What are the basic requirements for a Queensland security licence?
Licence Eligibility and Criminal History·36 views
o obtain a Queensland Class 1 security provider licence, you generally need to be at least 18 years old, provide the required proof of identity, satisfy the Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT) that you are an appropriate person to hold a licence and, for functions requiring training, successfully complete the approved training qualification. For most people commencing in the industry, the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations provides the training pathway for crowd controller and security officer (unarmed) functions.
You will also need to undergo the mandatory criminal history check and, for an original application, complete the OFT fingerprinting process. Don't arrange your own fingerprinting beforehand – OFT will advise you what to do after receiving your application. Your criminal history and general suitability are important. A recorded conviction for a disqualifying offence within the previous 10 years will prevent you from holding a security licence, while other offences, unrecorded findings of guilt and conduct can also be considered by OFT when assessing whether you are an appropriate person.
You must also apply for the correct licence function for the security work you intend to perform and pay the applicable licence, criminal history and fingerprinting fees. BARS Training Australia can provide the required training and guide you through the licence application process, but OFT ultimately decides whether your licence is issued. Our facilitators go through the licensing process during your course so you understand what needs to happen from training through to becoming licensed and ready for employment.
