Can BARS check whether my criminal history will stop me getting licensed?

Licence Eligibility and Criminal History · 28 views
No. BARS Training Australia cannot conduct the criminal history check used by the Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT) or guarantee whether OFT will ultimately issue you a security provider licence.

To be honest, it concerns us how many people seem to suffer from “memory loss” when asked whether they have previously been arrested, charged, convicted or even imprisoned! If there is something in your history that could affect your application, the best approach is to tell us openly and honestly.

BARS conducts a pre-enrolment interview with every prospective CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations student before enrolment. This gives us an opportunity to discuss your circumstances, explain the general licensing requirements and identify potential issues before you commit to the course. We can only provide useful guidance if you give us accurate information. Having a criminal history does not automatically prevent you from obtaining a security licence. Some recorded convictions for disqualifying offences create an automatic licensing barrier, while many other offences do not and may simply result in OFT requesting further information before making its decision. Ultimately, OFT conducts the mandatory criminal history check and decides whether you are suitable to be licensed.

Our role begins much earlier. We want to understand each student's circumstances before enrolment so we can identify how best to support their journey through training, licensing and ultimately employment. That's what we do.
