In Queensland, security provider licences are issued by the Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT). Depending on the security functions you intend to perform, you can apply for a Class 1 or Class 2 security provider licence. For an unrestricted Class 1 licence, applicants can currently choose a one-year or three-year licence period. Your original licence application also attracts mandatory criminal history and fingerprinting fees in addition to the applicable licence fee. (

Importantly, you should not arrange your own fingerprinting before applying. Once OFT receives your application, it provides a confirmation letter explaining the fingerprinting process and what you need to do. OFT requires this process even if you have previously provided fingerprints in another Australian state or territory. Similarly, the mandatory criminal history check forms part of the OFT licensing process, so applicants should not assume that obtaining their own criminal history report will satisfy this requirement.
BARS Training Australia provides the nationally recognised security training required for the relevant licence pathways and can provide practical guidance about progressing from training to your licence application. However, BARS does not issue security licences. OFT is the regulator that assesses your application, criminal history, suitability and other licensing requirements and ultimately determines whether your Queensland security provider licence will be issued.
