Can I add another security function to my existing Queensland licence?
Queensland Security Licensing·30 views
Yes, but it is not always as simple as just asking the Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to add another function. Generally, you can apply to add another security function to your existing Class 1 security provider licence provided you hold the current training qualification required by OFT for that particular function and satisfy any other applicable licensing requirements.
This can sometimes catch experienced security providers – particularly some of our “old timers” – by surprise. If you completed your original security training many years ago, the qualification that supported your existing licence may no longer meet the current training requirements for adding another function. For example, security providers who completed older qualifications before the introduction of CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations may find that they need to upgrade their training before OFT will approve additional functions such as crowd controller, security officer (unarmed) or security officer (monitoring).
This does not necessarily mean there is anything wrong with your existing licence or that your years of industry experience are not recognised. It simply means that an application to add a new function is assessed against the training requirements applying to that application. Before enrolling in additional training, BARS Training Australia recommends allowing us to review your existing qualifications and the function you want to add. We can then help identify the training you may actually require rather than having you complete unnecessary training.
