Absolutely. If you hold a Queensland security provider licence, you have a legal obligation to keep the Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT) informed when your details change.
Section 12 of the Security Providers Regulation 2008 requires a licensee to notify the chief executive of a change in their particulars within seven days. For an individual, these particulars include your residential address and postal address, as well as other important information such as a change of name or being charged with or convicted of a disqualifying offence. The maximum penalty for failing to comply with this requirement is 10 penalty units.
Keeping your address current is particularly important because OFT may send renewal notices or important correspondence concerning your security licence to the contact details it holds for you. You do not want an important licensing notice going to an address where you no longer live. Updating your details is easy. OFT provides a change-of-address process, and you can also contact its Industry Licensing Unit.
Our advice is simple: whenever you move, make updating your OFT details one of the things you do immediately. Seven days is not a long time, and keeping your details current can prevent much bigger licensing problems later. (
