Can work experience replace the Queensland security course?

RPL and Previous Security Training · 18 views
No. To obtain the relevant entry-level Class 1 security provider licence functions in Queensland, you need to meet the Office of Fair Trading's approved training requirements, which generally means completing the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations. You also need the appropriate security provider licence before you can lawfully perform regulated security duties for payment or reward. So there is a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem with claiming security employment experience as a substitute for the qualification – you generally need the qualification to obtain the licence, and the licence to lawfully gain that security employment experience.

Previous lawful security experience can certainly be considered through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). If you have worked in the industry under an existing or previous licence, worked interstate, served in policing or defence, or gained other genuinely relevant experience, BARS Training Australia can assess that experience against the requirements of the individual units. But experience does not simply replace the qualification required for licensing. RPL itself is an assessment pathway and you still need to demonstrate that you meet all of the current knowledge and practical competency requirements.

The important distinction is simple: experience may help you achieve the qualification through RPL, but experience by itself does not replace the Queensland security licensing training requirement.
