Can I transfer units from another Australian RTO to BARS?

Yes. If you have already successfully completed the exact same nationally recognised unit of competency with another Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO), BARS Training Australia can recognise that unit through credit transfer. Under the RTO Standards, an RTO must accept and provide credit for an equivalent nationally recognised unit where the required evidence can be verified.

This means you do not have to complete the same training and assessment again simply because you are now studying with BARS. Credit transfer is also different from Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). With credit transfer, another Australian RTO has already assessed you as competent in that unit, so BARS is recognising that existing result rather than reassessing your knowledge and skills. BARS does not charge a fee for genuine credit transfers. You will need to provide your qualification, Statement of Attainment or other acceptable evidence so we can verify the unit before applying the credit.

One important point is that credit transfer does not give you a new competency date. The BARS transcript will reflect the original date on which you achieved the competency. This can be particularly important for units such as HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, where currency matters. If you have previously completed security units with another Australian RTO, provide your certificates or transcript to BARS during the pre-enrolment process. We can check what can be transferred before you commence training.
