Can I use an old security qualification to get a Queensland licence?
RPL and Previous Security Training·19 views
It depends on what you are applying for.
Older security qualifications did not automatically transition across to the current CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations because CPP20218 superseded CPP20212 and is specifically recorded as “not equivalent”. For current Queensland licensing, the Office of Fair Trading requires applicants to satisfy the approved training requirements for the licence functions being sought. OFT also specifically advises that when adding a new function to an existing licence, anyone who has not completed the required security training since 2020, when the new training package commenced, may need to undertake or redo the required training. Your old security qualification can, however, be valuable as evidence in a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) application.
The important issue with RPL is proving current competency against today's units and assessment requirements. Producing a security qualification from 10 or 20 years ago when you have not undertaken any security-related employment, training or professional development since then may not provide much evidence that your skills remain current. On the other hand, an experienced licensed security provider who has continued working in the industry may have substantial evidence to support an RPL application. BARS Training Australia can review your previous qualifications and current industry experience and determine whether RPL is appropriate.
The old certificate may be useful evidence – but the real question is whether you can demonstrate that you remain competent to today's standards.
