Can international security training be credited in Australia?

RPL and Previous Security Training · 20 views
Not through normal credit transfer. Security training completed overseas is generally not issued within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) by an Australian Registered Training Organisation, so an RTO cannot simply credit transfer an overseas security qualification into the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations.

However, your international training and security experience can certainly be considered as evidence in a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) application. This is an important distinction. Credit transfer recognises an identical Australian nationally recognised unit of competency that you have already successfully completed. RPL assesses the knowledge and skills you have gained through previous training, employment and experience, including experience gained overseas. If you have worked professionally in security in another country,

BARS Training Australia can consider evidence such as overseas qualifications, training records, employment history, employer references, licences and evidence of the duties you performed. We must then map that evidence against the current Australian units of competency. You may also need to complete knowledge assessments, professional discussions or practical demonstrations where your existing evidence does not cover the Australian requirements. Australian and Queensland legislation is an obvious example – overseas security experience cannot demonstrate your knowledge of laws and licensing requirements that apply specifically in Queensland.

So your international security qualification cannot simply be converted into an Australian CPP20218 qualification through credit transfer, but don't disregard it. Combined with genuine and current industry experience, it may provide valuable evidence towards an RPL assessment.
