Do I need to repeat security training if I held the licence years ago?
RPL and Previous Security Training·21 views
It depends on how long ago you held the licence and what training you originally completed. There is an important 12-month rule in Queensland. Under section 11(2A) of the Security Providers Act 1993, if OFT is satisfied that you held a licence for the same security functions within the 12 months before your new application is received, you are taken to satisfy the approved training requirement for those functions.
If it has been longer than 12 months, your previous training becomes important. If you previously completed the current CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations, the security units themselves do not simply expire because you stopped working in the industry. However, OFT may require current evidence for time-sensitive competencies such as first aid and CPR where these form part of the applicable training requirements.
If your security qualification predates the introduction of the current training package in 2020, the position is different. OFT currently advises that people who have not completed the required security training since 2020 will need to undertake or redo the current training when seeking a licence function requiring that training. Your older qualification may still provide useful evidence towards a Recognition of Prior Learning application with BARS Training Australia, particularly if you have remained active in the security industry. So don't automatically enrol in another complete course.
Show BARS your previous qualification, Statements of Attainment and licence history first, and we can help identify what training you actually need before you apply to OFT.
