Technically, you can apply for a security job before your Queensland security provider licence has been issued, but in practical terms we recommend waiting until you have your licence number.

There is a good reason for this. Many security employers receive large numbers of applications from people who may have completed training but are not yet licensed or employment-ready. Employers want applicants who can actually commence licensed security work, so having your licence number demonstrates that you have completed the training and licensing process and are ready to work. The same applies to a number of security employment groups and social media sites, which may require you to provide a security licence number before allowing you to join or access advertised employment opportunities.  The BARS Employment Portal operates on the same principle. You need your security licence number before gaining access because the Portal is designed to connect Queensland security employers with licensed BARS graduates who are genuinely ready for employment.  This helps filter applications and gives employers greater confidence that the people responding to their vacancies are actually available and legally able to perform security work. While you are waiting for your licence, use the time wisely. Prepare your resume, research security employers and decide what areas of the industry interest you.
