Definitely not. Crowd control is only one of the many employment opportunities available to someone entering the Queensland security industry. After completing your CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations and obtaining the appropriate Class 1 security provider licence, you can look for work in static guarding, shopping centres, loss prevention, gatehouses, access control, mobile patrols, monitoring and control rooms, hospitals, airports, ports, industrial sites, construction projects, events and many other security environments. In fact, some new security officers discover very quickly that crowd control simply isn't for them – and that's perfectly fine.

Security is a remarkably diverse industry and different roles suit different personalities. You might enjoy working independently on mobile patrols, prefer the technology involved in monitoring, enjoy interacting with people at a gatehouse or find that industrial or port security becomes your long-term career. You can also expand your employment opportunities through additional training. BARS Training Australia conducts cash-in-transit training following many of our Certificate II courses, providing another pathway and an additional function that can be added to your security licence.

Further training can eventually lead into armed security and other specialised areas. Our advice is to get licensed, get that first opportunity and experience different parts of the industry. Your first security job doesn't have to be your last. BARS has trained security providers throughout Queensland for more than 20 years and maintains an extensive employer network.

Once you're licensed, our Employment Portal and industry contacts can help you see just how many different directions a career in security can take you.
