What practical skills are assessed in security training?

Security Training and CPP20218 · 25 views
Security training is a practical course, so students must demonstrate that they can apply their knowledge and skills in realistic security situations. BARS practical assessments include effective communication, identifying safety and security risks, responding appropriately to incidents, access control, screening people and property, conducting patrols, using radios and other security equipment, completing incident reports and maintaining accurate workplace documentation. Students are also assessed while dealing with challenging behaviour, intoxicated persons, conflict situations and the removal of people from premises. Practical training includes basic defensive techniques, control and restraint skills and responding appropriately when situations escalate. First aid is another important practical component, requiring students to demonstrate that they can respond appropriately to an emergency and communicate effectively with emergency services personnel. Depending on additional security training undertaken later, practical assessment can extend to specialist skills such as cash-in-transit procedures and the safe handling and use of firearms. BARS Training Australia places considerable emphasis on practical face-to-face training because knowing what to do and actually being able to do it safely under pressure are very different things. Our experienced facilitators create realistic scenarios where students can practise, make decisions, receive feedback and demonstrate competency before entering the industry. The objective is not simply to pass an assessment. It is to ensure students leave their training with practical skills, confidence and an understanding of how those skills are applied in a real security workplace.
