Yes. You do not need previous security industry experience to undertake the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations and apply for a Queensland security licence. In fact, most people already have some relevant life and workplace experience that can help them during security training – they may just not recognise it as such.

You may already have experience following workplace policies and procedures, dealing with people displaying challenging behaviour, calming difficult situations, communicating with people from different social and cultural backgrounds, identifying hazards or responding appropriately when something goes wrong. Many students have also completed first aid training or worked in jobs involving customer service, responsibility, teamwork or workplace safety. BARS refers to this existing knowledge and experience as part of your volume of learning. We identify relevant experience through the application and pre-enrolment process and respect and build upon it throughout your training. The CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations then provides the security-specific knowledge, practical skills and competencies you need to commence working in the industry.
