How do I become an unarmed security officer in Queensland?

Unarmed and Monitoring Security · 24 views
o become an unarmed security officer in Queensland, you need to complete the approved security training and obtain a Class 1 security provider licence with the security officer (unarmed) function from the Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT). The CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations provides the entry-level training pathway for this licence function.

An unarmed security officer is someone who guards, patrols or watches another person's property without a guard dog or weapon. The work can include static guarding, gatehouse and access control, loss prevention, shopping centre security, patrol duties and protecting commercial or other property. At BARS Training Australia, students complete self-paced pre-course learning followed by seven days of practical face-to-face training and assessment. The course develops skills including communication, risk assessment, patrols, access control, screening, incident response, reporting, conflict management and first aid.

Once you have completed all 14 units of competency, you can use your CPP20218 qualification as part of your OFT licence application. You must also be at least 18, establish your identity, undergo fingerprinting and a criminal history check, and satisfy OFT that you are suitable to hold the licence. BARS facilitators also take students through the licensing process during the course. Getting qualified is only the first step – our objective is to help you progress from training, through licensing and ultimately into employment within the Queensland security industry.
