Individuals seeking to become licensed as security officers (unarmed), security monitors, or crowd controllers in Queensland must complete the 14 core competencies within the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations course. This qualification reflects the role of a security officer responsible for maintaining safety and security by patrolling, protecting, or guarding property while unarmed, as well as screening entry, monitoring, and removing persons from premises.

This qualification is designed for new entrants to the security industry aiming to obtain a security (unarmed), security (monitoring), and crowd controller license in Queensland. HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) competency is not a licensing requirement for a security licence. When a person is issued HLTAID011, they are also deemed competent in CPR and do not require a separate HLTAID009 certificate unless specifically requested for a job or compliance purpose.  Issuing a separate Statement of Attainment for CPR is optional and requires an additional formal enrolment.

SITHFAB021 – Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) The RSA unit of competency is not included in the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations training package. Issuing a separate Statement of Attainment for RSA is optional and requires an additional formal enrolment.

If you wish to receive a separate Statement of Attainment for either of these competencies (e.g., for workplace or compliance purposes), a additional $30 administrative fee applies to each. This covers certification processing and documentation.

The certificate is delivered through a combination of self-paced learning and face-to-face group training and assessment. Please note, this course also requires students to complete pre-reading and online/external study in addition to the face-to-face workshop delivered over 7 consecutive days.

Pre-Course Workbook:
The pre-course workbook includes a course introduction and overview, providing information about study support, access to learning resources, flexible scheduling, and delivery of training and assessment. Information will also be given about information and communication technology and any other services deemed necessary to support learners in achieving competency. During this pre-course phase, participants will have access to online video conferencing and phone support, including over 52 videos related to first aid and best practices in security operations.

Face-to-Face Training:

This course requires participants to attend 7 full days of face-to-face training from 9 am to 5 pm. During this time, participants will complete all remaining course underpinning knowledge and project scenario assessments. Participants will be assessed against the required competencies through role-plays, scenario enactments, group discussions, and demonstrations, creating an engaging and varied learning environment.

Note: Due to course competency requirements related to role-plays, scenario enactments, and restraint demonstrations, all full security courses will be restricted to a minimum of 5 students.

Funding also may be available through the Queensland Government's certificate 3 Guarantee Boost, assisting unemployed jobseekers or those at risk of unemployment to link with training opportunities to help with finding a job or stay in employment.

To be eligible for funding under the Queensland Government's Certificate 3 Guarantee Program you have to aged 15 years or above and be a permanent resident of Queensland. Crowd Control QLD Refresher (3 Units)

New regulations have identified the need for current crowd controllers to have the ability to manage conflict and minimise harm to patrons whenever necessary.  Crowd controllers / bodyguards in Queensland must undertake these three units every 3 years.  The Queensland Office of Fair Trading now accepts the Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) as ongoing first aid training for crowd control and bodyguard with this course reflecting those changes.

CPPSEC3101 - Manage Conflict + CPPSEC3121 - Control Persons

Current crowd controller / bodyguards in Queensland must undertake CPPSEC3101 - Manage conflict and security risks using negotiation and CPPSEC3121- Control persons using empty hand techniques every 3 years.  This unit focuses on the skills and knowledge required to manage conflict and the practical skills of empty hand techniques. This unit is in partial completion of CPP31318 - Certificate III in Security Operations

The manage conflict and security risks using negotiation unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to manage conflict and security risks using negotiation techniques.

It includes:

  • reviewing and applying workplace procedures and policies including workplace health and safety (WHS) to comply with legal rights and responsibilities
  • maintaining situational awareness to identify and assess sources of conflict and risk, and selecting and implementing response options within the scope of own authority
  • using negotiation and communication techniques to resolve conflict, minimise risk and encourage a shared approach to conflict resolution
  • working with others to report, evaluate and improve response procedures.

It applies to people working independently or under limited supervision as members of a security team.

The control persons using empty hand techniques unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to control persons using empty hand techniques.

It includes:

  • identifying threats posed by persons presenting a risk to the safety of self or others and assessing response and withdrawal options
  • negotiating with subjects to defuse conflict and give spoken warnings and directions
  • applying recognised empty hand techniques using the minimum amount of force necessary to remove the immediate threat while avoiding vital areas of the body and without harming subjects
  • isolating subjects at a safe distance from members of the public and monitoring their wellbeing and safety.

HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid + HLTAID009 Provide CPR

This program will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to administer first aid to a casualty who has sustained an injury or illness, until the arrival of professional medical help.  Our experienced trainers take a professional approach that not only delivers the necessary knowledge and skills to confidently administer first aid, but the courses are also structured in a friendly, fun and enjoyable learning environment.

Target clients of this qualification are new entrants to the security industry seeking to obtain a security officer’s license and potentially a crowd controller’s license.

Legislation in Queensland requires persons working as security officers to be licensed. The Office of Fair Trading administers and issues licenses to successful applicants. Successful completion of HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid is a mandatory requirement for licensing.

Whilst the theory and concepts are covered in the course, ours courses are focused on the various practical skills needed to administer first aid. Underpinning knowledge and case scenario assessments are given to the client to complete prior to attending the practical face-to-face component of the course. This allows the client to study the theory at their own pace.

All our courses use a very “hands on” approach where theory is learnt while performing scenarios relevant to the client’s industry. We use a theatrical approach to the role plays to make them appear very realistic. HLTAID009 - Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

This program will provide you with the necessary skills to provide care to an unconscious casualty in an emergency situation until the arrival of professional help. Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation is a vital skill that can save the life of a casualty when they have stopped breathing. This course focuses on practicing this skill on our special CPR mankins (adults, junior and baby mankins). The perform CPR course is conducted over a 3 to 4 hour session.

Target clients of this qualification are new entrants to the security industry seeking to obtain a security officer’s license and potentially a crowd controller’s license.

Legislation in Queensland requires persons working as security officers to be licensed. The Office of Fair Trading administers and issues licenses to successful applicants. Successful completion of HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid is a mandatory requirement for licensing, along with the successful completion of HLTAID009 - Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation every year.

NOTE - BARS Training Australia is NOT registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Student (CRICOS). The Office of Fair Trading Queensland will not accept a training certificate issued to a student visa holder unless such training is conducted by a CRICOS approved provider. If you are the holder of a Student Visa you will not be enrolled to commence studies with BARS Training Australia.

Certification Issued

HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perfomr cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.  This unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

The competency will be delivered during a 3 to 4 hour face to face group training and assessment session. 

The participant will be required to complete the course underpinning knowledge and practical assessments as required by the competency,  whilst taking to part in role-plays, scenario enactments, group discussions and demonstrations that create an excellent and variety-based learning environment.

Note: The full course is conducted over appropriately a 3 to 4 hour period.

Pre-requisites

Minimum age for participants is 14 years and have completed a Nationally Recognised First Aid Course within the last 3 years. Participants under the age of 18 are required to provide a consent form completed by their legal guardian.

All participants should also have basic language, literacy and numeracy skills and are required to identify if they require language, literacy and numeracy support prior to enrolment by completing a short language, literacy and numeracy examination.

Students must be physically capable of responding to first aid emergency scenarios, including providing CPR to a manikin on the floor. Anyone in a wheelchair or with other disabilities that may impact their participation in these activities should contact us to discuss their individual circumstances before enrolling.

Certificate Validity

The Nationally Recognised Provide First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011) is valid for 3 years with the Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation component covered in the Apply First Aid course. 

Note: Participants should re-certify in Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation every 12 months to maintain competency in the skills required in an emergency situation.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the acknowledgment of skills and knowledge held by an individual as a result of formal training, work experience and /or life experience. If you believe that you already possess some or all of the learning outcomes contained in this course and you can demonstrate current competency, then you can apply for RPL.  To register for RPL you simply contact BARS Training Australia on (07) 5529 0834 during office hours or alternatively complete your online application indicating that you wish to apply for RPL and one of our staff will contact you.

Cash-in-Transit (CPPSEC3118 + CPPSEC3119 + CPPSEC3120)
A cash-in-transit security officer carries cash, bullion, jewellery or valuables. This skill set describes the skills and knowledge required to securely collect, transfer and deliver cash and valuables whilst in transit. This skill set may provide credit towards CPP31318 Certificate III in Security Operations.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a Statement of Attainment.

Note: In order to carry weapons in the security industry in Queensland, Security Officers must also complete the Firearms Skill Set course (coming soon) and hold a Security Guard Firearms Licence.

PRE-COURSE WORKBOOK - The participant will be supplied with pre-course material which includes a course introduction and overview, where the student will receive information about study support, access to learning resources, flexible scheduling and delivery of training and assessment.  Information will also be given to the student about information and communication technology and any other services deemed necessary to support learners to achieve competency.

PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT - This phase allows participants to be assessed against the required competencies whilst taking part in role-plays, scenario enactments, group discussions and demonstrations that create an excellent and variety-based learning environment.
